Last Weekend We Were Chasing an AKC Agility QQ. This Weekend It's ASCA Agility.
Same dog, same teammate, same training facility, and two completely different agility title journeys in one week.

Last weekend, Moose, Tucker and I hooked up our NuCamp TAB 400 camper and headed to Dream Dogs Training Center in upstate New York for an AKC agility trial. We spent the weekend camping right at the training center, which is one of my favorite ways to trial. Roll out of bed, walk the dog, make my favorite coffee, and you're already where you need to be.
The AKC weekend went really well. We earned another QQ, finished our Time 2 Beat title, and had some really solid runs. But if I'm being honest, the thing I'll probably remember the most wasn't even the title. It was our Jumpers with Weaves run on Sunday. Everything just clicked. Moose felt fast, connected, and like we were both speaking the same language for those few minutes in the ring.
When the AKC trial ended, we didn't head home.
Instead, I packed up the camper and headed to a campground where I met up with one of my best friends. She had been in another part of upstate New York competing in ASCA conformation and ASCA rally with her dogs. We spent a few days camping together, catching up, talking dogs, laughing about our weekends, and enjoying a little break before packing everything back up and heading right back to Dream Dogs for the ASCA agility trial.
Somewhere during that week, it hit me.
In the span of a few days, Moose and I were competing in two different agility organizations, chasing two completely different sets of goals, without changing dogs, handlers, or even training facilities.
Same dog.
Same teammate.
Completely different title journey.
Why I Love Competing in Different Agility Organizations
People sometimes ask why I don't just stick with AKC.
The answer is pretty simple.
Because I enjoy different things.
AKC has goals that I love chasing, like MACH, QQs, Time 2 Beat, and AKC Agility Nationals. UKI has some of my favorite courses because Moose gets to really open up and run. ASCA has a completely different feel. I find it a little more relaxed, partly because there are no refusals, and partly because the atmosphere just feels different to me.
I also have people I associate with each organization. This ASCA weekend was extra special because I got to spend it with the friend who introduced me to ASCA in the first place. Sometimes the best part of a trial isn't the ribbon. It's the people you get to spend the weekend with.
The Funny Part Is That My Trial Routine Never Changes
Even though the organizations are different, my routine really isn't.
I still pack way too much stuff into the camper.
I still walk the course with exactly the same goal: figure out the best way to help my dog.
I'm not standing there thinking, "This is an AKC course," or "This is an ASCA course."
I'm thinking about Moose.
Where do I need to support him?
Where can I let him open up and run?
What line will help him be successful?
That part never changes.
The title requirements might be different, but my job stays exactly the same.
One Dog. Several Different Dog Title Journeys.
The thing that changes is what we're working toward.
Last weekend I was thinking about another QQ, MACH points, Time 2 Beat, and AKC Agility Nationals qualification.
This weekend, those goals quietly moved into the background. Now I'm thinking about ASCA agility titles instead.
That mental switch used to be surprisingly difficult.
When Moose first started competing, I didn't even keep records. I relied almost entirely on memory because I never wanted another notebook or spreadsheet to carry around. That worked when he was earning Novice titles. It doesn't work so well once one dog is doing multiple organizations.
Now there are different title systems, different points, different goals, and different things to celebrate.
And honestly, that's one of the reasons my husband and I decided to build Happy Dog League Title Tracker.
The Tracker Changed Something I Didn't Expect
When we started building the tracker, I thought it would help me keep records.
What I didn't expect was how much it would change my trial weekends.
Now, after a qualifying run, I pull out my phone while everything is still fresh and spend about a minute updating it.
AKC stays with AKC.
ASCA stays with ASCA.
UKI stays with UKI.
I don't have to stop and think, "Wait... which title was this helping again?"
I already know.
The best part is that once I've entered the run, I stop thinking about it.
The record keeping is done.
Now I can get back to watching dogs, talking with friends, or figuring out what we're making for dinner at the campsite.
It's About More Than Titles
The older I get, the more I realize the titles aren't actually what I remember.
I'll remember our Jumpers run from Sunday.
I'll remember Moose happily dragging me toward the ring because he couldn't wait to run again.
I'll remember sitting outside the camper in the evening talking dogs with one of my best friends.
I'll remember laughing about runs that went exactly as planned... and the ones that absolutely didn't.
The titles help mark those moments.
But the moments are the reason I keep doing this.
Why I Keep Coming Back
People often think competing in multiple agility organizations means keeping track of more rules.
They're not wrong.
But I think it also means getting more opportunities to enjoy this sport in different ways.
AKC gives me one kind of weekend.
ASCA gives me another.
UKI feels different again.
Hopefully CPE and NADAC are in our future too. Each organization adds another chapter to Moose's story, and honestly, I wouldn't want to choose just one.
The Real Goal
Looking back on this trip, I'm obviously happy about the QQ and the Time 2 Beat title.
I'm excited to see what happens at the ASCA trial.
But if someone asked me what my favorite part of the week was, it wouldn't be a title.
It would be spending a week traveling with Moose, camping with my best friend, and getting to do the thing I love most with my dog.
The titles matter.
The points matter.
Keeping track of them matters.
But they're really just little bookmarks in a much bigger adventure.
And that's the part I never want to lose track of.
